The two-week courses are aimed at international practitioners working in the field of development cooperation, researchers or lecturers as well as advanced students and career entrants. Participants should hold a university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) and have relevant professional/practical experience. A good command of English is a prerequisite.
The above mentioned co-funding awards are available to non-Germans who are alumni of German institutions of higher education, meaning that they must have studied, researched or worked at least 3 months at the German institution. Additionally, alumni of foreign universities who received a sur-place-scholarship in their home country or third country from a German institution are also eligible.
All courses are accompanied by a framework program that allows participants to become familiar with current scholarly discussions in course-relevant areas of development cooperation, and to meet representatives of German governmental and non-governmental organizations active in this field.
By selecting participants with different professional and cultural backgrounds from all over the world, the program follows the intercultural and interdisciplinary approach vital to development cooperation. The SLE TRAINING program, which celebrated its 10th Anniversary last year, already comprises an active network of over 700 alumni from more than 100 different countries. The program is sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service with funds of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Federal Foreign Office.
